| Now I have Blitz 3D, I have decided to rewrite Galactus using a 3D engine - a 3D system seems a more logical way of doing this, plus I can add some nice effects etc.
I am also thinking about maybe having a sub game where you have to fly through an asteroid field. I think it would be quite good to have more of a first-person view instead of the top-down view used in the main game. |

| Okay, attack waves & alien explosions now working :) Each wave flies in from a random direction. All aliens fire randomly and will dive toward the player.
After each attack wave, the play area rotates 90 degrees so the aliens always attack from different directions.
There are a couple of minor bugs but I'm working on them. I've now added this to the showcase so you can have a look for yourselves... |

| I think I've cracked it :) I'm using bezier curves so the attack wave motion is nice & smooth and the ships turn to the direction of travel. Also, when going round a tight bend, the ships will appear to slow down so the movement is quite realistic.
I've just got the basics working at the moment and I just need to integrate all this into the game.
I've also made a few other tweeks too. Once it is in a reasonable state, I'll post it on the showcase :) |

| Hmmm. There is more to alien attack waves than I first thought. I want to make sure I get this bit right since it will make the difference between an okay game, and a great game!
There are added complications due to a feature of the game (I'm keeping this a secret for the time being - don't want to spoil the surprise!).
This requires furtehr thought...
I've also just bought myself a gamepad so I've added in support for this too! |

| Well, it's been a while but I'm about to start working on this old beast again.
Before my 'Blitz holiday' I had just started to develop the attack waves for the aliens. I just need to get my head back into it.
Once done, I will update the demo so there are things to shoot at :) |

| Well, I was meant to finish of my Slider game but I've discovered that writing shoot 'em ups is more fun :)
THE GAME It's based on Galaxians but to add variety and make it more interesting there will be some extras.
The galaxy is split into setors and each sector will have about 5 attack waves and a different selection of enemies. Using a star chart you can choose the order you visit each sector.
I've also added a little twist but that will come later...
The idea is to collect as much money as possible. You can buy better weapons but this will lower your score.
PRIMARY WEAPON SYSTEM The player ship can have ion, plasma or laser guns. The latter ones are faster & more powerful. The ship starts off with single shot but can be upgraded to have 3 or 5 gun ports.
SECONDARY WEAPONS Photon cannons can be added which fire diagonally. They also have a special 'burst mode' which fires photons in all directions but has the disadvantage of leaving your ship vunerable for a few seconds (you can not move or fire) so use it at your own risk!
There will also be a homing missile launcher which will always target the most powerful enemy.
COOLANT SYSTEM When you fire weapons your ship heats up - the more weapons you have the more heat is generated. When you reach a certain temperature you can not fire any more until you cool down.
The better your coolant system, the quicker it will cool down. I've added this in so it's not just a 'fire as much as you can' game, you have to make your shots count using controlled bursts.
SHIELD GENERATOR This slowly recharges your shield. The better your generator, the quicker your shields recharge!
ENGINES The more extras you add to your ship the slower it gets so you need to upgrade your engines.
WORK DONE SO FAR I now have basic movement and all the weapons (except missile) are working. I've also added some nice sound effects too :)
Next on the list are the coolant system & shield generators. Once this is done I shall start on the enemies... |

| My brain has had an idea for a new game - aargh! I wish it would stop doing that, I don't have enough time for my other projects but hey, I'll do my best ;)
It is a basic shoot 'em up type of game with a TWIST thrown in.
Don't want to reveal too much at this stage since it has only just progressed from the idea stage (and I don't want to spoil the surprise when you play it!).
It will, of course, include loads of weapons, a shop to buy even more weapons, and one or two sub-games to give a bit of variety.
Watch this space... |
